My Lifeguard Story: Early Start

This summer break, i have chance to participate in work&travel program and i decided to work as a lifeguard since I've heard a lot about being a lifeguard in the summer.

At the early start, it took me to the swimming pool more often practicing my swimming skill after i quit 10 year of being a swimmer. I seriously don't want to lose this job so i keep practicing as often as possible. Before i get job interview with High Sierra Pool, i had to send them video of my swimming test; swim 300 yards, swim back and fort retrieve 10 pounds brick and trade water for 2 minute without using hands. After i passed all those two process, the next step is training. It took 4 days for the training. The first day we lectured about lifeguard primary and secondary responsibilities of the lifeguard and lots of thing about being a lifeguard after that we spent 6 hours in the pool for rescue training. the second day, we learnt how to CPR , AED and first-aid and the administration of oxygen and other half day, we spent hours in the pool again played as a real lifeguard monitoring patrons in the pool and my instructor made some emergency cases in the pool. It was kinda tough for my first time monitoring people and since a lot of hours in the pool, the rescue tube is my best friend now. The other 2 day, i took exam to complete my certificate and learnt pool operator like water chemical and pump. Now i already completed my certificate and really excited to start my first job ever in the US. I hope i will have a great summer time there. As my instructor said, honestly, life-guarding is one of the best jobs out there. Others are great, but nothing beats getting paid to yell at people and tan.
